Jul 11, 2012 - Many games store their save files in Steam Cloud, which stores your game saves online and synchronizes them between your computers. To copy these saves over, copy the My Games directory and place it in the same location on your other computer.

How to transfer Steam games and their saves to a new computer? So I’m getting a much better gaming laptop soon and obviously want to transfer over all my Steam games and save files to continue my adventuring. I’d like to not have to re-download and install every game I have, as the download speed in my house never gets more than 500KB/sec. (Urgh…) Jul 12, 2017 - Whether you're switching to a new PC, reinstalling Windows, or just. Them use Steam Cloud to sync their saves, while games without the cloud. All your Steam games will be present, so you won't have to re-download them. If the games support steam cloud saves, the saves will download to your new PC automatically when it tries to sync upon launch. You can MAYBE look in the game's. Well if you exited game with saves deleted in game that would overwrite saves on steam cloud anyway so even if you could download saves directly it would be already too late. There is some tricks to make download steam cloud saves without overwrite but only if you didn't exited game. So I have a few questions about what I need to do… Transferring Steam Library to New Computer First of all, I’ve found this guide which seems to suggest that I can just copy over the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe onto wherever I like on the new computer and then just run Steam.exe and it’ll magically install Steam with all the games already installed. Is this really true? (I realise copying over 100GB onto an external hard-drive then copying it back over to the new computer will take a long time, but it’ll certainly be faster than re-downloading the games with my Internet!) 1) If this method works will it create all the relevant Steam program folders when it installs the program on the new computer? Or do I need to create them and sort them myself? 2a) Does it matter where on the new computer I put the put the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe? Or when Steam.exe is launched will it set itself up in the right place? 2b) How does having two drives on the laptop affect this? My current computer only has the one C: drive, but my new laptop will have a C: solid state drive and a D: HDD, where I want to store Steam and all its games. When installing will Steam get confused if there are some user folders on the C: drive but I’m installing it on the D: drive? 3) Will this method copy over and install DLC I have for games? If so does this include DLC that is bought and installed outside of Steam (like for Mass Effect 1 and 2)? Or will I need to re-download those? What hurts the most video. 4) Are the any other Steam folders I need to copy over for it to work with any settings I might have changed/etc.? Transferring Game Saves to New Computer I realise that a lot of games don’t store their saves in the SteamApps folder, and I’ll need to first Google search for where each game stores its saves on my computer. Irritating. 5) When I copy the save files onto the new computer, should I copy them before I’ve ever launched the game on the new computer? When I then launch the game for the first time will it automatically detect and use my old saves no problem? Or should I launch the game before I copy over any saves, let it create its own empty save folders, then replace these with my old files? 6) For games that use cloud storage do I not need to bother copying over the saves? When I launch them on the new computer will it automatically download the games’ saves from the Internet and store a copy of the files on my new computer? 7) On my current computer I only have a C: drive, but on my new laptop I will be storing all the Steam games and their saves on the D: drive. Will the games not be able to read my old saves as they will be remembering to look in “C:…My Documents” rather than “D:.My Documents”? 8) So many games create their own save folders in My Documents, and it really makes things untidy. Can I create my own folder (e.g. Steam Game Saves) in My Documents and put all my save folders for the games in there? Or will the Steam games not be able to use that, as they will only be looking in the My Documents folder? Can You Download Game Saves To Different Computer From Steam Computer9) Anything I need to do for transferring over all my Steam Achievements and progress towards them (e.g. number of kills)? Or is that all stored online attached to my Steam account and will work no problem when I log in on the new computer? Sorry for so many questions! I just want to be absolutely sure I’ve got things right for when I start gaming on my new computer, with no worry about losing saves.
